During the first 10 years of our personal injury law practice (back in the ‘80’s), it felt really good to help our clients “Weather the Storm” that always rolls-in after a serious accident. But we found ourselves wishing that we could help those in our local communities avoid the accident in the first place. This strong desire to actively prevent injury and death in our community motivated us, in 1991, to establish Lawyers’ Endowment for Accident Prevention, (L.E.A.P.), an authorized 501(c) charitable foundation.
Since then, our attorneys at Nuttall, Brown & Coutts have donated a portion of their attorneys fees to fund L.E.A.P.’s accident-prevention projects, including:
- Annual Bike Safety Rodeos;
- Video security systems at local schools;
- Annual High School Grad Night College Scholarships to encourage celebration in a safe environment;
- Gun lock training, and providing trigger locks to secure 1,000 guns;
- Free swim lessons to teach 300 children to swim;
- Drones (including thermal imaging) for local Search and Rescue Teams;
- Safety vests, orange cones, crossing flags, signage, safety helmets, goggles and emergency kits for local Elementary Schools;
- Funded purchases of multiple K-9 dogs and equipment for local law enforcement;
- Annual funding of sex trafficking-prevention, victim-recovery and self-defense (Elizabeth Smart Foundation);
- And many more community-based safety projects.
